POSITION DESCRIPTION (MINIMUM):

This is a unique opportunity for the person who feels called to ministry among the marginalized.  As a Residence Supervisor, you will:

  • Provide direct supervision to residents of a congregant living facility;

  • Provide friendship and guidance to men in recovery from addiction and/or poverty;

  • Be able to provide personal accountability and physical security of the premises;

  • Model a growing Christ-like lifestyle in both knowledge and practice; and

  • Be teachable.

You will apply your gifts of discernment and hospitality in a setting that is a "ministry of friendship" among people who need a friend, guidance, and support.  Lived-experience and/or knowledge of addiction and trauma is an asset, but not required.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITY:

The ideal candidate will be able to fulfill the role of a Peer Support Worker by living on site in the residence and by being available full time.  However, consideration will be given to the right candidate who is able to dedicate a sufficient amount of time, daily, to the role.

At present, we will work with the person who is the right "fit" to accommodate their personal and professional needs while meeting our need for a Residence Supervisor.   This means that the right candidate may or may not choose to live on site, and/or may or may not be gainfully employed elsewhere while living on site and providing supervision during "off hours" at Hope House.

The candidate who possesses the appropriate and demonstrable mix of character, competency, and calling may advance into a leadership role of Ministry Director or a pastoral position within Hope Barrie.

DETAILED POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the Residence Supervisor / Peer Support Worker is to provide overall leadership to the Hope House Supported Transitional Housing Programme and, administratively, the Counselling Centre Day Programme (when the day programme is running; currently it is not).  The Supervisor is a front-line ministry worker who will be the primary point of contact for occupants of Hope House and programme participants.  The Supervisor will assist the Pastor, Counsellors, and other Ministry Directors and Associates in the completion of their responsibilities and in pursuit of the mission of Hope Barrie.

 

MINISTRY DESCRIPTION:

The Supervisor's primary function is to provide leadership and guidance to residents of Hope House Barrie. 

The Supervisor, as a person who possesses demonstrable growing Christian maturity and character, will function within a team that operates on the front-lines of ministry and will be needed to exercise gifts such as hospitality, encouragement, wisdom, and leadership to visitors and volunteers at Hope City Church ministries, with particular emphasis on providing and facilitating mentorship paths and Christian Discipleship to programme participants along with all of the necessary administrative functions to maintain the facility and programme.  The Supervisor will support the vision and mission of Hope City Church Barrie.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Residence Supervisor / Peer Support Worker will:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Hope House Residence, including chore schedules and assisting with meal planning, as necessary;

  • Ensure that all "house rules" are being followed, and apply accountability and corrective action, as needed;

  • Manage the facility and report needs and deficiencies to the Director;

  • Assist with the intake process and case management of residents;

  • Assist with integration and participation into the wider Hope Barrie programming and community;

  • Facilitating "devotional" times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Residence Supervisor / Peer Support Worker is a follower of Jesus who, in addition to growing in a relationship with Jesus, agrees with the statement of faith of Hope City Church and the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada.  This person possesses a Biblical world-view and substantive biblical knowledge, and is able to lead others in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  The right candidate must be organized and discreet.

Assistant Manager,
Higher Grounds Coffee House

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Ministry Support Associate ("Assistant Manager") – Higher Grounds Coffee House is to oversee the daily operation of the café.  The Ministry Support Associate is both a supervisory position, providing supervision to paid and volunteer staff at the café, and a service role, providing front-line ministry work as sometimes the first point of contact for visitors to Hope Barrie.  The right candidate will assist the Manager, Higher Grounds Coffee House, and the Executive Director, Hope Barrie, and other directors and staff in the completion of their responsibilities in pursuit of the mission of Hope Barrie, The Hope Centre, Hope House Barrie, Hope City Church, and its associated ministries.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Manager's primary function is to operate the Higher Grounds Coffee House social enterprise.  This Team Member, as a person who possesses demonstrable growing Christian maturity and character, will function within a team that operates on the front-lines of ministry and will be needed to exercise gifts such as hospitality, encouragement, wisdom, and leadership to visitors and volunteers at Higher Grounds Coffee House, as well as organizational and supervisory skills.  The Assistant Manager will understand the role of Higher Grounds Coffee House and the participants of the Stepping Stones Programme (volunteer mentorship programme) within the structure and mission of Hope Barrie and the community, and will support the vision and mission of Hope Barrie to "help people to become everything they were created to be."  This is presently and primarily a permanent daytime position.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open and close the café;

  • Serve customers, supervise staff and assign tasks, train staff;

  • Contribute insight into the “Stepping Stones” job skills mentorship programme;

  • Maintain cleanliness of all aspects of the café;

  • Maintain the required level of supplies on hand for the effective operation of the café;

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and health code standards and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Assistant Manager is a follower of Jesus who, in addition to growing in a relationship with Jesus, agrees with the statement of faith of Hope City Church and the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada, and supports the vision and mission of Hope Barrie.  The candidate possesses a Biblical world-view and substantive biblical knowledge, and is able to help others to follow Jesus.  Functioning in a role that includes integrating persons of no faith into the Higher Grounds and Hope Barrie community, the position requires the ability to demonstrate grace and possesses the understanding of the role of relationship-building and hospitality in the task of Christian Discipleship. The person must be organized and discreet, and must possess (or be able to obtain) Safe Food Handling Certification and WHMIS.
